There are a variety of cycling routes in Bhutan and along the trails, a large number of scenic spots are available and worthy of a visit.There are plenty of photographic opportunities available for photography lovers in this tiny kingdom. Here come some fabulous destinations that you can’t miss during your Bhutan photo tour.

Known as Tiger’s Nest, the Paro Taktshang Monastery is one of the most fascinating and interesting monasteries in the world. It sits perched on a narrow ledge more than 900 meters up the cliff face of the mountain.

The circular National Museum of Bhutan is as important as the cultural artifacts inside. As the skies are clear in spring and autumn, you can get a great view of the true beauty of this circular fortress.

Between Thimphu and Punakha, there is a gorgeous destination called Dochula Pass. At 3,100 meters above sea level, the pass is a popular place for photographing the mountains of the Himalayas to the north. Here you can also get to witness the beauty of the 108 Memorial Chortens.

Lying at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers, Punakha Dzong is famous as the most beautiful monastery in Bhutan. The beauty of this amazing Dzong is enhanced by its surroundings and you will be attracted to take photos.

In addition to the most-visited destinations in Paro, Thimphu and Punakha, you can also go further to Gangtey for the stunning valley scenery, to Trongsa and Bumthang in central Bhutan for the magnificent fortress like Trongsa Dzong and the fabulous natural and rural landscapes.

2. Do you have to be a photographer to go on the Bhutan photo tour?

All travel and photography enthusiasts are welcomed. We encourage all skill levels of photography lovers to join our tours. Our carefully designed packages are not just about doing photography together. You have a lot of opportunities to enjoy Bhutan's stunning landscapes, admire the ancient monasteries and fortresses, talk to the gracious local people. Also, you have the chance to challenge the Tiger's Nest Monastery hiking. In general, you don't have to be a photographer, but can come along and appreciate the relaxed pace of this tour.

3. What is the physical fitness level required for the Bhutan photography tour?

During your Bhutan photo tour, there will be some walking involved, which will be short and easy. In monasteries and Dzongs, there will be some stairs to climb. If you are in good health and moderate level of fitness, these walk will not be a big problem.

The only challenge is the hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery on a 900 meters high cliff. The Tiger’s Nest hike is a relatively tough 2-3 hour (one way) uphill walk, consisting of three parts.

The first part is about one hour uphill to a cafeteria which has great views of the monastery. The cafeteria serves buffet-style food, with hot and cold beverages. The second part of the hike is another hour from the cafeteria to the location which offers the best views of the monastery. From here, it’s another hour to walk to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Any photography is not allowed inside the monastery itself and all cameras and mobile phones will have to be left outside. Please note that the return journey is on the same route.
